How Does Digital Asset Management Work
Digital asset management is very similar to physical asset management in it's approach, but extends how assets can be managed and distributed. Collaboration is also enhanced when using software tools that allow different departments and locations access to the assets. Typically, a Digital Asset Management system (DAM system) uses a database to store asset specific information called meta data. As assets are added to the DAM system, both meta data and the electronic assets can be uploaded and registered in the database. Properly structured meta data allows anyone to query the database and find one or more assets based on specific search criteria. Once the search results are obtained, the researcher can now look at the individual assets on-line, and choose the best asset(s) for their needs.
