Case Study
Another DVD Solution
Overview:
An established publisher exploring affordable, effective, alternative media to print, in order to re-purpose and distribute research material to the medical market
Customer Objectives:
Create user-friendly tool for medical professionals to easily access research papers and associated video documentation.
Why DVD was the best solution:
Large volume of document and video assets, plus overhead of database, search function and graphic elements required large capacity media
The Allied Vaughn Solution:
Allied Vaughn created a DVD-ROM that provided a targeted search function allowing user to select contents by Author and/or Keyword from database. Each document had associated video clip to illustrate the disorder presented in the document. As user scrolled through search results, interface displayed previews of article and associated video clip prior to selecting the desired asset.
This use of DVD technology satisfied the program objectives by using the disc for its capacity rather than the traditional DVD video function. Additionally, we suggested that the video be compressed as MPEG1 rather than standard DVD MPEG2 so that the documents could automatically link to the video – a function that was not possible using DVD video files.
Results:
End-user response supported the creation of additional DVD-ROM editions featuring new content.
