Halftone Process of using different gradiations of one color to print on a disc. The art work has a varying degree of ink intensity
Hazardous material Any article or substance designated by the U.S. Department of Transportation (DOT) as being capable of posing an unreasonable risk to health, safety, and property during transportation.
HDTV High definition television New television standard now being broadcast in some parts of the country with significantly improved picture resolution. Normal NTSC television signals have 525 lines of resolution whereas HDTV has 1125 lines. Picture aspect ratio is also different. Normal NTSC television is 4x3 and HDTV is 16x9.
HFS Hierarchical File System Used by Macintosh platform. HFS formatted CD-ROM's have the same file structure as an Apple hard disk.
Hi-Fi Audio Also known as FM audio A cleaner audio signal with greater dynamic range than normal (linear) audio. Unlike normal linear audio that actually has dedicated tracks devoted only to audio, FM audio is modulated and actually recorded along with the video signal.
High-Resolution - a 300 + DPI image placed in a document at 100% or smaller
Highway contract route (HCR) A route of travel served by a postal contractor to carry mail over highways between designated points. Some HCRs include mail delivery to addresses along the line of travel. Formerly called star route.
HTML Hyper Text Markup Language The coding language used to create Hypertext documents for use on the Worldwide Web.
Hybrid Disc A CD-ROM which can function on either the PC or the Macintosh platform. The disc contains separate ISO 9660 and HFS partitions.
HybridDVD Most commonly used to describe a disc that will play in both a DVD-ROM (PC) system as well as in a stand-alone DVD-Video player. aka: Enhanced. Mistakenly used to describe other “shared” situations; please see Cross-platform, WebDVD.
